Maya Lin - The Vietnam Veterans War Memorial
After the war, there was a contest where people would submit their designs of how they believe the Vietnam War memorial should be. Maya Lin was a young student of architect at Yale University, and when she first entered her design into the national contest, there was much controversy over the design. Many people felt that the long black wall was too seldom and depressing, and it isn't how the dead would want to be remembered. The wall was also called, "a black gash of shame." Although chosen as the winner, the design was halted due to the public outcry of disapproval from the wall's design. Once the memorial under went construction and it was completed, reviews of the wall completely turned to support, and the previous people who opposed the design changed their minds' quickly.
